May 2011.
In ‘The Angels’ book by Bob Yates, they describe how the interest began with Dave and the Brewster brothers sparking a new version of the band.
In May, Dave Gleeson heard the Brewster brothers were playing a restaurant venue in the Adelaide Hills, not far from him. (The Haus, Hahndorf)
Dave says ‘I went along and talked with the boys between sets and John said, what Angels songs do you know? I said all of them – cause I was a mad Angels fan always was probably up to Howling, so I accepted their offer to get up and I did four or five songs with them’
With Dave out front, the energy leapt. The response was immediate with the audience and staff on their feet and dancing. John looked over at a grinning Rick and they just nodded.
A few days later John called Dave and told him that Doc (Neeson) was no longer in the band they had some demos they wanted to do would he like to sing on them?
‘I was a bit hesitant of my reverence for Doc but at that time it wasn’t about The Angels, it was just about some demo songs they’d been writing. I was off the road with The Jets so yeah I said I’d have a crack at it’.
It wasn’t how John saw it. Excitement got the better of him and he called Rick. ‘We’ve got a singer!’
